44th Annual Telethon Raises $1,257,484
Western New York once again showed they have the biggest hearts in America as they helped to raise $1,257,484 during the 44th annual Variety Kids Telethon, on Sunday March 4, 2006.
The 44th Annual Telethon, the longest locally produced Telethon in the world, was broadcast on WKBW-TV Channel 7 for 12 hours. Ed Smith served as Telethon Chairman.
" The people of Western New York, Northern Pennsylvania and Southern Ontario came through for our kids once again this year. Our kids all have dreams and with the help of the people of our great area, we can help make those dreams comes true.” Said Smith
The fund raising is not over for this year’s Telethon. The annual Buffalo News Kids Day, normally held before the Telethon, will be conducted on Tuesday April 25th.
“We need everyone to support this major fund raiser,” said Smith.
The date was changed to improve the safety conditions for the volunteers and hopefully have better weather. In addition, volunteers will have more daylight to sell the special editions of the paper Funds raised during the annual Telethon benefit the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Patient Monitoring System at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, the Robert Warner Rehabilitation Programs and other Western New York children charities. |
